My name is Cindy.
I am a wife and a mother.
I have had a lifetime of loss starting with losing my mother who died from cancer when I was 25, my father who died from a lung disease when I was 26 and my eldest sister who died from cancer almost 6 years ago.
I am not bitter. I was raised to live life to the fullest and I do my best in honor of them.
Current status:
Consumed with my daughters addiction to Oxycontin and living in fear that she will not survive.

Cindy,
I found your blog through “Her Big Sad’s” blog. As I read your posts, my heart breaks for you. My two sons were involved in drug use. We had to ask our oldest (now 29) to leave home at 18, because of his drug use. He seems to have “outgrown” his shenanigans, but he carries so much baggage from the past now. He is married with three children, and we pray that the cycle is broken, that our grandchildren will not go down that same road.
Our second son went to rehab at age 19, surrendered his life to Christ, and will be sober for four years in June.
Our experiences led my husband and me to found Glass House Ministries, largely a ministry of encouragement and prayer. If you would like, we will add your name to our prayer list: http://glasshouseministries.blogspot.com/2009/11/breathing-life-into-dead-places.html.
You can let me know by contacting me at cheri@cherihardaway.com.
God bless,
Cheri

Hi,
My mom died from cancer when I was 18. My daughter is also addicted to Oxy and she has broken all ties with me. I miss her so much. I have not heard from her or met her kids in tow years. God bless.

Helga,
It seems we are walking the same path with our daughters and in life. I’ve not seen my daughter in a few months. I had not heard from her in over a week until this past Sunday. I have been out of my mind with worry. I always imagine the worst until I get a text msg from her.
Im sorry about your daughter…it sucks…plain and simple. I recently had a comment one of my posts (I am not alone) from a former addict that made my day. Go and read it and you will see that no matter what, our girls are listening to us. This has restored my hope.
I pray that our children, yours, mine, and the many others out there suffering with addiction find their way to sobriety.

I was so glad to find this, this morning. Other mothers who know how this feels. My youngest son died of a heroin overdose in November 2006. He was 25 years old. My oldest son, who is about to turn 33, is on his way back to prison for the 4th time on a drug conviction. I want to just wash my hands of the whole thing. But, geeze, he’s my son. My husand (not Josh’s dad) says I should tell Josh I am DONE. Then, no letters in prison, no money, no nothing until he can get himself together. I actually think that would be best but I don’t want to lose him. I am afraid. So glad I have somewhere I can write about this. Writing and reading all of these blogs is very therapeutic for me. God bless us all!

Louise…I have always found the blogs therapeutic as well. It is nice to know you are not alone in all of this.
I have not found many people who understand what it is like to have a child who struggles with addiction, recovery, relapse, incarcaration or any of the other dark sides to it.
The people you will meet in blogs have nothing to lose or hide, embrace them and the message of hope they carry.
I am so sorry for the loss of your youngest son. I couldn’t imagine the pain you must go through, even though there were many times I imagined I would be burying my own child.
I found through my experience that cutting off my daughter, as hard as it was, is what actually made her hit her bottom quicker. I still feel guilt over her being homeless and struggling to survive, but I did what I thought I had to do to help her.
My daughter is currently clean, sober (for 6 months now), living in a sober living environment. It is still hard every day to believe, trust and live life without worry…but I do…thank god.
Hang in there and come back often… find other blogs and keep the faith.
